The best performances happen when artists forget they’re performing. My job is to make that happen.

My Story

My passion for music was always focused on the same question — how endless moving parts come together to make a brilliant piece of music.
Since my early days, I was eager to find out how things worked under the hood. Raised in a little kibbutz (village) in the south of Israel, it was my father (a designer and a technical genius) who instilled in me a love for handcraft, hard work and curiosity. His hands-on approach, combined with my obsession for how things work, drew me behind the scenes of music making, the realm of production and sound.
Growing up, music filled our house. My parents would play records from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Ever since I can remember I would repeat the songs over and over, focusing on a different element of the music in each listen. I was mesmerized by how rich and powerful music could be with just a handful of instruments.
At the age of 13 I picked up my dad’s guitar and started figuring out how to play all the Beatles songs. My family had to suffer for a while, listening to me struggle with the instrument, but soon enough I was ready to perform in the community holiday gatherings.

A couple of years later I discovered two things that changed my life: Music can be recorded, edited and manipulated on my computer at home — and live-sound is controlled by one person behind a bunch of buttons and flashing lights.
This, for me, was a dream come true: I could place myself at the heart of music creation and learn how the wizardry works.
Although I almost followed an older ambition of being a pilot (buttons and flashing lights are my thing, can you see the pattern?) I decided to go to a music school. In 2014 I graduated from the Music Production and Engineering track in Rimon School of Music in Israel. While still a student I was already working as a sound engineer in a live-sound company and as a recording and mixing engineer in a small studio.
In 2015 I moved to Boston MA for a couple of years, made great friendships and collaborations at Berklee College of Music, including Sharon Renold and the Grammy-nominated Berklee Indian Ensemble. Immediately upon my return to Israel in 2017, I got a job as an engineer in a large studio in Tel Aviv (Mitzlol Studios) while at the same time working as the house engineer in large venues in Israel. I recorded some of Israel’s leading artists like Shalom Hanoch, Daniel Zamir and Yuval Mendelson, to name a few. As a freelance live-sound engineer I got to work at Jazzaar Festival in Switzerland for two years, and with artists like Eric Berman, Shem Tov Levy, Shay Hamber and many more.

Since 2017 I’ve been producing, mixing and participating in a growing number of projects with artists like Nitzan Bar, Yotam Ishay, Shai Yuval and Hila Rabby. It’s in that studio in Tel Aviv that I met my close friend and musical partner, Charli Riot, with whom I’m plotting to take over the world.

With 20+ years in music behind me, I’ve gained experience in sound engineering, music production, writing, composition, room-acoustics planning and building and more. I can confidently run a project as a musical director/producer, record/mix/master any music and mix a live concert of any scale. All of these are driven by immense devotion, with attention to details, camaraderie and curiosity being my guiding stars.
My greatest pleasure in this work is in that moment when I can see through someone's eyes and know how to help them fulfill their vision. When it's really working, I'm equal parts invisible and essential. My job is to read, anticipate, and help you to be the most honest version of you.
I'd know I did my job when it helped you in a way you didn’t expect.
My ambition is to make great music together with great people. Collaboration is where I really shine. Let’s make some really good art together!
Peace,
IYAR ~
